Last month, SemanticWeb.com, supported by OCLC and LITA, put out a call for work that promoted or demonstrated the benefits of linked data for libraries.

My first several weeks on the Platform Team have been rushing by and I am anxious to give you a preview of what we've been working on here. At a high level, we're still focused on the goal of providing you with useful and easy to use web services so you can develop your own solutions utilizing the shared data assets of the OCLC cooperative. I'm starting to get a sense of how many people are involved and how much behind-the-scenes effort goes into working towards that goal. If the recent release planning meeting (my first!) is anything to go by, we have a lot to talk about.

Work continues on keeping our web services up to date and the following improvements are now available for two APIs.

On Sunday, 12 May 2013 there will be a scheduled service downtime for the OCLC WorldShare Platform and all associated OCLC Web services available through the Platform from 2:00 am to 8:00 am ET (-5 GMT).

During the downtime, the WorldShare Platform will receive this quarter’s planned enhancements. Downtime will be minimized as much as possible.

Lots of things have been cooking here at the Developer Network. We have a bunch of new services either in pilot or in development, and the number of third-party partners who are using the WorldShare Platform to add libraries and library data to their applications continues to grow, too. But most of all, I am happy to report that our team is growing!

On this Sunday, 13 January 2013 there will be a scheduled service downtime for the OCLC WorldCat Search APIs available through the Platform from 2:00 am to 4:00 am ET (-5 GMT).

During the downtime, the WorldCat APIs will receive planned maintenance. Downtime will be minimized as much as possible.

Many of you system administrators/developers also are in charge of maintaining the library's EZproxy servers. So we always like to cross-post EZproxy announcements when there's a new release. And one went out today, in fact!
