WorldShare Platform High-Level Roadmap

After the initial release of the OCLC WorldShare Platform, OCLC plans additional development work to enhance and extend support for both developers and "app consumers."  Our plans for the February and May (2012) releases include enhancements in the following areas:

Certification

  • Improved management of review process within the Platform environment
  • A “dashboard” for developers (and OCLC) to view app and service usage stats
  • Community-based app certification activity

WorldShare App Gallery

  • Ability to make apps available for local use only
  • Ability to install and uninstall apps at an individual level (i.e., for a single user or a subset of all users)
  • Tracking of lifecycle events
  • Ability to add reviews, ratings, and supplemental information to apps
  • Browsing and searching enhancements
  • Support for representing external apps (i.e., not OpenSocial) in the App Gallery

Test environments for development and certification

  • Extensions to OpenSocial support to allow:
    • Increased flexibility in plugging apps into OCLC products
    • Interaction with product events and data
    • Improvements to versioning for apps
  • Options for developers to modify the Service Directory
  • Simplified workflows for requesting service keys (WSKEYs)
  • Integration between Developer Network and the platform to support more community activity

Please note that the plans above are subject to change based on community feedback and emerging requirements.

In addition to the features listed above, OCLC will be working to externalize more services via the WorldShare Platform as new product versions are released. We encourage your feedback on future enhancements, services and functionality.
