Jenny Johnson, OCLC Executive Director of Branding and Marketing Services discussed what is keeping library directors and managers up at night. From managing e-resources to elevating the visibility of your collection and meeting changing user needs, Jenny shared members' insights on metrics and ROI. She discussed how communicating and proving relevance of libraries is changing. She shared how colleagues answered these questions during discussion groups OCLC has held with library leaders across the U.S. and Europe. As staffing, facilities, collections and services evolve, members shared how these changes might impact libraries, users and the OCLC cooperative.

As part of NetSpeed, TAL Online held a session featuring Jason Openo, Alberta Public Library Electronic Network. The Alberta Library (TAL), a consortium of 49 public, university, college, technical institute and special libraries, recently selected a group catalogue solution from OCLC as its provincial discovery tool. The revamped union catalogue, TAL Online, makes 25 million items available to Albertans, and is scheduled to launch in October 2013. Read the news release.

Using provincial technology funds, The Alberta Library has licensed the OCLC Group Catalogue, built upon the WorldCat platform, to serve as the mechanism to facilitate resource sharing for Alberta’s libraries, expose provincially licensed e-content, and expose library resources on the open Web. Jason will share the selection process, discuss implementation obstacles and triumphs, and most importantly, display how to get the most out of this powerful new catalogue by integrating library collections on social networking sites.

We are a worldwide library cooperative, owned, governed and sustained by members since 1967. Our public purpose is a statement of commitment to each other—that we will work together to improve access to the information held in libraries around the globe, and find ways to reduce costs for libraries through collaboration.
