Aéroport International Strasbourg

Strasbourg Airport is known in French as the Aeroport de Strasbourg, and it has been allocated the official code of SXB. It can also be referred to as the Entzheim Airport, due to its location in the area of Entzheim. The airport is very close to the city centre, and is one of the most important air gateways in France, handling over a million passengers per annum. It is very well equipped with passenger facilities, and is served by a number of airline companies. Strasbourg Airport is the 11th French airport with 25 airlines and 35 tour operators offering over 200 destinations by direct and connecting flights.

A train shuttle operates 4 times per hour from the airport and connects the airport with the Strasbourg's city centre in 9 minutes. In the airport you will be able to purchase a combined TER (train) and tram ticket for 4 € (from a machine near to a covered walkway that takes you to the train) that will enable you to travel to the city centre and then via tram to your destination.

A shuttle bus operates between Strasbourg International Airport and the Baggersee tram station all year round. Shuttle leaves the airport every 30 minutes between 5.10am and 23.15pm. The journey lasts for 12 minutes and the price of one way ticket is 5.10 €. At the Baggersee tram station, you can take the tram line A which will guide you directly to the centre of the city. You can also take a taxi from the Airport - taxis are available in front of the main airport building until 11 pm.

For further information about how to get to the airport, and the vicinity of Strasbourg, the French Airport Guide is useful.  As a guide a taxi from the airport to the Palais des Congrès will cost approximately €32.

By road

Strasbourg is on the central European motorway network, directly connected to Paris by the A4 motorway to the west, linked to Munich via Stuttgart on the A8 Autobahn to the east and the A5 north to Frankfurt. The Strasbourg-Mulhouse route is linked to the national motorway network, allowing access to Lyon and Marseille, as well as to destinations in Spain and Italy.

The Michelin Maps and Routes website will calculate your driving routes to Strasbourg from anywhere in Europe, and includes information about the cost of tolls that you will incur. Click on the flag in the top right of the screen for more language options.

To avoid congestion within the city centre, there are a number of large car parks that you can use and then continue your journey on public transport. See this website for more information in relation to parking in the city.  There is free parking available at the Palais des Congrès.

Motorways bear the prefix 'A' and other major roads 'N' (nationales) or 'D' (départementales). Traffic is on the right and drivers must give way to the right, unless the route is marked with 'passage protégé' signs (a broad arrow, a yellow diamond or an 'X' on a triangular background), or at roundabouts.

Speed limits are 130kph (81mph) on motorways, 110kph (68mph) on dual carriageways separated by a central reservation, 90kph (46mph) outside built-up areas and 50kph (31mph) in built-up areas.

A national driving licence, the car's registration document and a red warning triangle must be carried at all times. EU nationals taking their own cars to France are strongly advised to check what level of cover their car insurance policy provides when driving abroad, and top it up if necessary.

By coach

The coach station is located at place des Halles and served by two companies. Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois (CTS) serves the immediate surroundings of Strasbourg, including Wasselonne, Obernai and Erstein. Eurolines operates international coach services to major destinations throughout Europe.

By rail

The French national railway (SNCF) operates frequent direct high-speed trains to Strasbourg from Paris Gare de l'Est and Lille Europe (interchange with Eurostar from London). Strasbourg's main train station is France's second largest railway station outside of Paris. There is a Tourist Information Desk based at the station, opening times are 9.00 - 19.00 Monday - Saturday.

The high-speed TGV-Est runs from Paris Est to Strasbourg in 2 hours 20 minutes. The best journey time from London (Eurostar to Paris and TGV-Est to Strasbourg) is about 5 hours 11 minutes. There are good services from many European cities, such as Frankfurt (journey time - 2 hours 10 minutes), as well as links to France's major cities, including Bordeaux (journey time - 6 hours 11 minutes) and Marseille via Lyon (journey time - 7 hours 30 minutes).

A taxi from Gare de Strasbourg, the main station in the centre of Strasbourg, to the Palais des Congrès will cost approximately €15.

Note, if you are travelling to Paris via Eurostar, you will need to allow an hour to change stations in Paris (and to account for any possible delays) You will arrive at Paris Gare de Nord and will need to make your way to Paris Gare de L’Est a short walk away. There are taxi’s and a metro link, but walking is the best option as the taxi queue is very long and it is only one stop on the metro.
