OCLC Research and Wikimania to Host Wikipedia Loves Libraries Event on 11 July in Washington, D.C.

OCLC Research Wikipedian in Residence Max Klein organized this event to continue to build momentum for the Wikipedia Loves Libraries initiative, a continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events.

As the OCLC Research Wikipedian in Residence, Max Klein works with OCLC Research as community coordinator to explore and pursue mutually beneficial projects between OCLC, library stakeholders, and the Wikipedia community through a range of activities. He also works with OCLC staff and libraries to help foster a broader understanding of Wikipedia's practices, and he investigates what technological integration is possible both technically and politically.

The 11 July Wikipedia Loves Libraries event will convene previously-participating and new Librarians and Wikipedians at Wikimania in Washington, D.C. to steer direction and brainstorm new project ideas. It will also include a Workshop for Librarians on some of the secret tricks that can be used to become information literate in Wikipedia. All are welcome to attend this free event but advanced registration is required and space is limited. Register online at the link below or e-mail Jeanette McNicol.

In addition to hosting the Wikipedia Loves Libraries event, Max Klein will present an overview past efforts and future potential of libraries and librarians working with Wikipedia in a WebJunction webinar, Librarians are Wikipedians Too, on 2 August at 2:00 p.m. Eastern / 11:00 a.m. Pacific. In this webinar, Max will discuss strategies to drive web- and foot-traffic to libraries through the use of Wikipedia, plus reveal powerful tips and tricks into the software and policies of Wikipedia, helping librarians to critically address quality for themselves. The webinar is free but advanced registration is required. Complete details are available from the links below.

We are a worldwide library cooperative, owned, governed and sustained by members since 1967. Our public purpose is a statement of commitment to each other—that we will work together to improve access to the information held in libraries around the globe, and find ways to reduce costs for libraries through collaboration.
