Jenny Toves

Software Architect

Jenny's current projects include VIAF and map/reduce.

Map/reduce is Python-based toolkit based on a white paper describing Google’s implementation of map/reduce that accomplishes parallel processing. Jenny uses map/reduce to explore ways to mine information from large datasets.

VIAF is a joint project of several national libraries, implemented and hosted by OCLC. The project's goal is to lower the cost and increase the utility of library authority files by matching and linking the authority files of national libraries, and then making that information available on the Web. Jenny’s role in this activity is to accept data from participating institutions and then match personal names across the files. The map/reduce framework is used to host the name matching.

Prior to joining OCLC Research, Jenny worked as a developer in Reference Services on the EPIC and FirstSearch products.

We are a worldwide library cooperative, owned, governed and sustained by members since 1967. Our public purpose is a statement of commitment to each other—that we will work together to improve access to the information held in libraries around the globe, and find ways to reduce costs for libraries through collaboration.
