This two-hour reference boot camp focuses on conducting a proper reference interview; the difference between reference and research; how not to give advice while supplying information and when to punt the question to the librarians.

Course Overview

Increasingly paraprofessionals, library assistants, and student workers are called to staff the reference and information desks. Librarians are armed with explicit training to manage specific questions and scenarios where other workers are frequently left to fend for themselves. This two-hour reference boot camp focuses on conducting a proper reference interview; the difference between reference and research; how not to give advice while supplying information and when to punt the question to the librarians.
