Definition |
A series statement for a series title, statement of responsibility, etc. Field 490 does not serve as a series access point. When field 490 is used and a series access point is appropriate, both the series statement in field 490 and a corresponding series access point in field 800, 810, 811, or 830 are recorded in the bibliographic record. For information on punctuation, see the Punctuation section below. |

For guidance on recording parallel data elements describing musical resources, see “Supplement 2” of the Music Library Association’s Supplements to Best Practices for Music Cataloging Using RDA and MARC21. |

Repeat subfield ǂa when a subseries is separated from its corresponding series by the ISSN in subfield ǂx or by the numbering of the main series in subfield ǂv.
ǂl Library of Congress call number | Library of Congress (LC) use only. The LC call number when it is given as part of the series statement. |
ǂv Volume number/sequential designation | The volume number or other sequential designation used in conjunction with the series statement.
