Definition |
A note about a bibliography, discography, filmography, webliography, and/or other bibliographic references in an item. Use field 504 also to indicate the presence of a bibliography, etc., in accompanying material that is described in the record. For multipart items, including serials, the note may pertain to all parts or to a single issue or part. Use field 500 for regulations, statutes, and tables of cases. Enter notes in field 500 if a note mentions contents in addition to the bibliography and the bibliography is not deemed sufficiently extensive to warrant a separate note. Use field 504, however, when the presence of an index is mentioned in a bibliography note. In cases of doubt, use field 504 rather than field 500. Refer to LCRI 2.7B18 or LC-PCC PS 7.16.1.3 for further information regarding the use of 504 notes. For current cataloging do not input square brackets around unnumbered pages or leaves per LC-PCC PS 1.7.1. For information on punctuation, see the Punctuation section below. |
