Debbie Schachter

Dr. Debbie Schachter is the Associate Vice-President, Students, at Langara College in Vancouver, Canada. Debbie joined Langara College in July 2021 as the Director of Library Services and Learning Commons as well as the Director of CAPER-BC, a provincial service providing alternate format resources to students. Debbie’s previous roles in higher education include the University Librarian at Capilano University, in North Vancouver Canada, and Director of Learning Resources and Records Management at Douglas College in New Westminster, Canada. She also has experience as an executive and senior leader in non-profit and charitable organizations, including as the Director responsible for technical services, collections and information technology services at Vancouver Public Library, Canada’s second largest public library system.

Debbie is active in local and international Library cooperatives, consortia and associations, including the BC-ELN consortium and IFLA. She served as Chair of the OCLC Global Council and Chair of the America’s Regional Council in 2019-2020, and Chair of the OCLC Canadian Advisory Committee from 2014 to 2021.

Debbie has a Bachelor of Arts (in English and History) and a Master of Library Science from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, and a Doctor of Education from the University of Edinburgh. Debbie is currently enrolled in a Master of Law in Intellectual Property at Osgoode Hall, York University, Canada.
