Reposition your library to be at the heart of teaching and learning
"Resource list management is now much quicker and easier. Talis Aspire has transformed this area of work, and I don’t know how we’d manage without it. It’s streamlined and easy to use."
Ruth Smalley
E-resource Librarian, Edge Hill University
Talis Aspire provides a real-time communication channel between the library and faculty at Edge Hill University, keeping library collections in step with listed resources. And Talis Aspire's intuitive interfaces make life easier for library staff, faculty, and students.
Realizing the importance of giving faculty and library a sense of shared ownership of the system, the academic liaison team carried out extensive outreach and training activities. "We positioned Talis Aspire as a university system and approached roll-out as a two-sided, collaborative conversation," said Sonia Edwards, Academic Engagement Manager.
"When we chose WMS, we were pleased that OCLC and Talis had chosen to partner more closely. I think that will benefit a lot of OCLC and Talis customers."
Integrate lists into library workflows
The integration of Talis Aspire with WMS provides links between library items and faculty-created course lists where those items appear. It helps connect the library to the campus learning management system and provides an interactive connection point between faculty, students, and the library. In the first 12 months, more than 1,000 students, academics, and librarians used this feature.
Anna França, Head of Collections & Archives, feels that integrating campus and library systems plays an important role in teaching and learning. "Improved integration with other systems can support students by providing links to their resources wherever they happen to be," she noted. And because Talis Aspire indicates the priority of listed resources along with how much usage is anticipated, the library can respond effectively to user needs in areas such as acquisition and circulation.
Support institution teaching and learning
Sarah Wright, Acquisition Team Leader, admits she was wary that tight integration would funnel her ordering processes into a single platform. Now that everything is in place, she's pleased with a more flexible solution that gives her team a wide choice of suppliers.
Ultimately, Talis Aspire has helped reposition the library at the heart of teaching and learning. And by playing a direct role in timely delivery of learning resources to students, the library has gained visibility across the institution, leading to new investment in library and learning services.
