"A great motivational drive for us in selecting WorldShare® Management Services was the ability to be able to work collaboratively in a shared international environment. This allows us to create connections between people and resources around the world, enabling us to share good working practices and common goals."

Università degli Studi di Enna Kore in Sicily, Italy, wanted a system that would offer all the applications required to manage their library and provide the best possible service to users. In addition, promoting greater awareness of cultural realities through international relationships is critical to the university's mission.

"We wanted to break through the national borders to be able to share our research results internationally. The work of our researchers needed greater visibility and dissemination to help support the mission of not just our university, but any university—to share knowledge," said Alessandra Pecora, Library Director at Università degli Studi di Enna Kore.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) was the best way to face both of those challenges.

"One of the strengths of the WMS system is the ability for users to authenticate and create search lists, bibliographies, and bibliographic citations within a virtual space and check statuses, loans, delays, and reservations," said Alessandra.

"We have been able to get a better understanding of how both our electronic and print resources are being used."

The library had struggled to get a full picture of e-resource use. The implementation of WMS has meant that their staff can get more data and feedback on their use. "The migration and configuration of e-resources in the new system has made it possible to highlight the real use of our resources with concrete data," adds Alessandra. Our staff have also been able to use APIs to tailor and improve access to e-resources like creating a virtual shelf for library users.

One of the most impactful attributes of WMS is how it furthers library collaboration, both between departments and institutions. Flexible options support local requirements and strengths while leveraging opportunities to share. As Alessandra says, "Out of more than 72,000 records that we have 21,208 are original records. This means we have been able to make an important contribution to WorldCat® libraries and gain greater visibility for our resources, gaining further international reach and recognition."
