Gaye Rowley

Gaye Rowley served as Director of the Waseda University Library from 2020-2024. The library was established in 1882 and now comprises one of the largest research and teaching collections in Japan. Waseda was also the first library in Japan to contribute its records to OCLC. From 2012-2019, Gaye served as Associate Director of the Library and benefited greatly from the collegial atmosphere and professional development opportunities offered by OCLC Asia Pacific Regional Council Conferences.
Gaye is a specialist in Japanese literature. She has written or translated several biographies of Japanese women, including An Imperial Concubine's Tale (2013), Yosano Akiko and The Tale of Genji (2000), Ōgimachi Machiko's In the Shelter of the Pine (2021), and Masuda Sayo's Autobiography of a Geisha (2003).
