OCLC and Talis to offer leading resource list management system to support library and university e-learning strategies
Partnership will offer Talis Aspire to OCLC WorldShare Management Services libraries in select countries
DUBLIN, Ohio, 1 September 2021—OCLC and Talis are partnering to offer Talis Aspire, a market-leading course resource list management system, to new and existing customers of OCLC's WorldShare Management Services.
Talis Aspire enhances both in-person and online learning experiences by enabling faculty members and instructors to create reading lists of materials from the library collection to support course learning objectives for their students. Through interoperability with the institution's library management system, Talis Aspire ensures students can access materials quickly from the institution's collections in compliance with local copyright requirements.
WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is the world's first cloud-based library management system. With WorldCat as its foundation, WMS allows library staff to draw on OCLC's shared data network and technology for more efficient workflows. WMS also enables staff to make data-driven decisions related to the use and management of the entirety of the library's collections—electronic, print, and digital—empowering the library's users with superior access to the library's collections and the world's knowledge.
As a result of this new partnership, OCLC will be able to offer Talis Aspire to WMS customers throughout the United States, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand. Rich interoperability between the two services will help institutions better manage the acquisition, use, and retention of materials within the context of in-person and online learning environments.
"OCLC is committed to offering libraries best-in-class solutions to meet the evolving needs of their academic institutions, the faculty and students they serve," said Skip Prichard, OCLC President and CEO. "This partnership will help academic libraries create deeper connections with their institutions by providing direct support for course work. OCLC and Talis share a profound commitment to serve libraries and education, and we look forward to extending our relationship to integrate these two leading services."
Since 2018, OCLC has supported interoperability between Talis Aspire reading lists and WMS. This new agreement takes that partnership to another level.
"I am delighted to be working more closely with OCLC, to grow the Talis Aspire community," said Alison Spencer, Talis CEO. "It's important to us to work with organizations that share our core values. OCLC is a global player in the library technology space and has been a long term collaborator with Talis. I'm looking forward to working together with OCLC to drive a deeper partnership for the benefit of universities around the world."
