  • Melissa Edwards, Executive Director of Strategic Research Communications, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaigns

Description

In the forthcoming OCLC Research report, Social Interoperability in Research Support: Cross-campus partnerships and the university research enterprise, communications professionals are identified as important partners in building networks and community around research support activities, as they promote institutional accomplishments and initiatives to both internal and external audiences. They are storytellers and dot connectors, and libraries are important partners for identifying relevant facts about university research and researchers.  On the flip side, this information forms the basis of content that help to sell the ideas and creativity of researchers to funding agencies.  Communications professionals are eager consumers of information about research activities on campus, and are important partners with libraries for research information management, research analytics, and more.

In this webinar, OCLC Senior Program Officer Rebecca Bryant will facilitate a discussion with campus communications professionals from two research intensive institutions. The panelists will share their experiences as campus communicators, and talk about the differences between marketing and communications. They will share their goals, skills, and pain points as campus communicators and highlight points of synergy between libraries and communications. They will also share their own personal stories of successful collaborations with the libraries at their institutions.

This webinar is part of a series offered by the OCLC Research Library Partnership focusing on cross-campus collaboration in research support, in conjunction with the forthcoming publication Social Interoperability in Research Support: Cross-campus partnerships and the university research enterprise, which examines the growing imperative for cross-campus, cross-domain institutional collaboration in the provision of successful research support services.

This webinar will be of interest to anyone interested in cultivating positive campus partnerships to support research activities. We expect this to be of particular interest to scholarly communication librarians and library leaders.
