Activating URIs in linky MARC

Session B: In this 90-minute Metadata Managers Focus Group round-robin, we’ll explore community use cases for the use and re-use of linked-data URIs found in MARC records.

Description

In this 90-minute Metadata Managers Focus Group round-robin, we’ll explore community use cases for the use and re-use of linked-data URIs found in MARC records. Community members are invited to bring examples of work they are doing or have seen that activates linked-data augmentations to MARC records in their discovery systems and integrations.

As part of OCLC’s linked-data strategy, we have added WorldCat Entities URIs to WorldCat records as $1 links in 100, 600, 647, 651, 700, and 758 MARC fields. This enrichment establishes a bridge between MARC data and linked data, connecting data across local systems and workflows. We have also released Dewey and FAST linked-data and are working to inject these URIs into WorldCat records. With this key foundation established, what do you want to do with these URIs?

Facilitator

  • Richard Urban, Senior Program Officer, OCLC Research Library Partnership

Who should attend

  • Catalogers and metadata creators who are working to augment MARC records with linked-data URIs
  • Library leaders who are building applications and integrations that take advantage of linked-data infrastructures to enhance discovery and connect entities across systems (e.g. integrations between LSPs, institutional repositories, and research information management systems)
  • Participants must be current members of the Metadata Managers Focus Group or may be nominated by their RLP institutional partner representative. Most participants will demonstrate leadership around metadata in their organizations (even if they don’t have supervisory responsibilities). If you are interested in participating from an RLP institution, please contact Richard Urban or subscribe to the Metadata Managers Focus Group Interest List.
